43 mm steel case, blue ceramic bezel and three-level dial.

The V242010 case is made of 316L stainless steel, 43 mm in diameter and 12.35 mm thick. It's not a small watch, but it has just the right proportions. It weighs 210 grams, the weight of a steel watch with a transparent case back built to be felt.

The crystal is sapphire with anti-reflective coating. For the purpose of this Swiss watch, it's expected: it doesn't scratch with daily use and is readable without reflections in the mountains.

The bezel is unidirectional, with a blue ceramic insert. It's not painted steel: it's real ceramic, the kind that doesn't scratch or lose color. Victorinox's founding year —1884— is engraved on the bezel, a detail only those in the know appreciate.

The dial of the V242010 is not flat. It has three levels of depth:

  • Level 1 (outer): An inner ring with a tachymeter scale.
  • Level 2 (intermediate): A ring of thick blue lines that acts as a separator.
  • Level 3 (central): The heart of the dial. Matte blue, with a textured finish, where the hands and date at 6 o'clock sit. On the inner edge, it incorporates the 24-hour scale.

The hands are skeletonized square-shaped, with a finished inner tip. Their shape recalls Swiss hiking trail signs. They are designed to read the 24h scale at a glance. They feature Super-LumiNova® luminescent material.

The seconds hand is yellow. It's not there for decoration: it's the same yellow used on signposts in the Alps. A nod to those who know that a hike isn't measured in hours, but in landscapes.

The indices at 3 and 9 are not numbers. They are applied battons that support the visual structure. The rest are applied luminescent indices.

The date is at 6 o'clock, where it doesn't break the design's symmetry.

Bracelet and quick-release system

The bracelet is steel, 21 mm wide, with solid links. The front of the links has a matte finish; the junction between them, a contrasting shine. This play of finishes gives it that fine tool feel.

The clasp is a double-push button folding clasp and has a tool-free quick-release system. Press, slide, and the strap comes off. In two seconds you go from the steel bracelet to a fabric, leather or rubber strap. Useful for when you want to change its look.

Caliber Sellita SW200-1: Swiss automatic with 38-hour power reserve

It features the Sellita SW200-1 automatic caliber, made in Switzerland. It's a movement that enthusiasts seek out for its reliability. No batteries needed: it winds with the movement of your wrist, or you can hand-wind it if it's been sitting still for a few days.

When fully wound, it runs for 38 hours without moving it. Enough for the weekend. Precision remains within Swiss mechanical watchmaking parameters.

The case back is transparent and screw-down. You see the movement in action and, on the back crystal, an engraved silhouette of the Swiss Army knife reminds you that this is a tribute to 140 years of history.

200 meters and ISO 1413 certification

It resists 200 meters (20 ATM) according to ISO 22810 standard. You can swim, snorkel or have any underwater adventure without worry. The crown is screw-down.

Additionally, it has ISO 1413 shock resistance certification. It has passed specific tests: a 3 kg hammer striking the crystal, drops from 1 meter onto a wooden floor... It won't fail you if you hit it against a rock.

Frequently asked questions about the Victorinox Journey V242010

What exactly does "Swiss Made" mean on this luxury Swiss men's watch?

It means the movement was assembled in Switzerland, at least 60% of the manufacturing costs are Swiss, and the final checks were done there. Victorinox designs, develops, tests, and produces in its own factory in Delémont, Switzerland.

Is it too big for a wrist smaller than 17 cm?

The case measures 43 mm in diameter and 12.35 mm in thickness. It weighs 210 grams. On paper it seems large, but the lug design is optimized for a good fit. If you have a small wrist, it's best to try it on, but many buyers comment that "it looks more contained than the numbers suggest."

How does the quick-release strap system work?

On the back of the bracelet, where it joins the case, there is a small quick-release pin mechanism. Press, slide to one side, and the strap comes off by itself. To put the new one on, align, press, and that's it. You change the look in two seconds.

Does the ceramic bezel scratch with use?

Ceramic has a hardness far superior to steel. It is scratch-resistant and does not lose color in the sun. A blue ceramic bezel like this one maintains its appearance like on the first day.

How often do I need to wind it if I don't wear it daily?

If you leave it stopped, you will need to hand-wind it and set the time. With a 38-hour power reserve, if you wear it daily, the movement of your wrist will keep it wound without you thinking about it.

In short: If you're looking for a formal dress watch, it might feel large. But if you want a Swiss automatic instrument, with shock resistance certification, a ceramic bezel, and a dial with unique personality, this is your watch. And if you don't climb mountains, it's still great: you get a Victorinox with Sellita movement, sapphire, 200 meters, and 140 years of history on your wrist.

Journey 1884 Concept

1884 is the year Victorinox was founded. Here the brand has gone a step further by naming its watch after its founding year. It's a unique value proposition. But it makes even more sense when you add all the watch's concepts.

The 24-hour scale on the inner edge is not just decoration. Combined with the skeletonized hands, it lets you know whether it's 10 AM or 10 PM. On a multi-day hike, that makes a difference. You need to know the day is progressing. That's why it's called Journey: because a day has 24 hours, just enough to explore, walk, get lost, and find yourself.

Other models you might be interested in

The Victorinox V242010, with its three-level blue dial and 24h scale, is the most emblematic of the Journey 1884 collection. But the family has other variants with the same construction.

If you're looking for exactly the same design and presence —43 mm, sapphire crystal, steel bezel, ISO certifications, 200 meters water resistance— but with the maintenance-free precision of a quartz, the V241978 is its battery-powered sibling. It shares the same three-level blue dial, the hands inspired by Swiss trails, the yellow seconds hand, and the quick-release strap system. The difference is in the movement: the V241978 features a Swiss Ronda 715 analog quartz movement. The same variant is also available with a resin strap, model V241975.

They all share the essentials: Swiss Made, 200 meters, sapphire, 5-year warranty. You decide which one you want to explore with.

If you're looking for something more robust, the I.N.O.X. Automatic is a steel watch with extreme protection. And of course, you can see all Victorinox watches in our store.
