Casio CA-53WF-4BDF Watch
The Casio CA-53WF-4BDF is a digital watch with built-in calculator, with a resin case measuring 43 x 34.4 mm and a resin strap in burgundy. Its 3208 module revives the format of the calculator watches Casio popularised in the 1980s, with a negative display featuring a dark background and light digits. The calculator is 8-digit, the CR2016 battery offers approximately 5 years of autonomy and water resistance covers splashes and brief immersion, but not swimming.
The display integrates calculator, chronograph, daily alarm, dual time, time signal and automatic calendar up to 2099. The chronograph supports three functions: standard time (start, stop and restart), lap time (records a split without stopping the count) and two finish times (records the first and second competitor without restarting). The alarm sounds for 20 seconds and stops on its own.
The calculator is operated with the same buttons as the other functions. The buttons are small and the adjust button is recessed for safety, which requires more precision to press. With a little practice, basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) are solved without difficulty. The button tone can be turned on or off by holding down the calculator button.
The display is negative: dark background with light digits. This gives it a more modern look than the original CA-53W, but it affects legibility. Depending on the angle of light, the digits read well or get lost. The watch has no light, so in low light conditions it depends on an external source. This is the main limitation of this version.
The watch weighs 25 g and is 8.2 mm thick. It wears without being noticed: the resin case and strap of the same material, with buckle clasp, adjust without squeezing and the watch hides under a sleeve without bulking up. The case back is stainless steel with four screws. It is not a limited edition: it is a regular production model.

Why choose this watch?
43 x 34.4 mm and 25 g: wears without being noticed
The compact case and 25 g make the watch disappear under a sleeve. It does not bulk up, does not weigh and does not become a nuisance when you have been wearing it for hours.
8-digit calculator on the wrist
The calculator solves basic operations without reaching for your phone. It does not replace a desk calculator, but for a quick calculation on the wrist it delivers. It is the feature that has defined this series since the 1980s.
Chronograph with three functions
It is not limited to standard time: it supports lap time and two finish times. Three ways to time without changing module, useful for measuring splits or recording two competitors.
Negative display: looks versus legibility
The dark background and light digits give a more modern look than the original version. In exchange, reading depends on the angle of light, and the watch has no built-in lighting.
No light: the limitation you need to know
This model does not include LED light or Illuminator. In low light, the negative display and the absence of lighting force you to look for an external source. Anyone who needs to see the time in the dark should choose another model.

Frequently asked questions
Can the calculator be used with wet hands or in the rain?
Not recommended. The watch resists splashes and brief immersion, but it is not designed to press the buttons underwater. Moisture on the buttons can affect the mechanism over time. If it gets wet, dry it before using the calculator.
Does the calculator work in all modes or only in calculator mode?
Only in calculator mode. To access it, switch modes with the corresponding button until the calculation screen appears. The digits are entered with the same buttons used to set the time, and operations are confirmed with the equals button.
Does the chronograph stop automatically at 23 hours or can it be restarted?
The chronograph reaches its maximum capacity at 23 h 59 min 59.99 s. If it reaches that limit, it stops. To use it again, it must be reset to zero. It is not a chronograph designed for measurements longer than a day.
Does the negative display read well outdoors?
It depends on the light. With direct light or in well-lit interiors, the digits read clearly. With diffuse light or at unfavourable angles, contrast is lost. The negative display has no light of its own, so outdoors on cloudy days or at dusk, reading gets worse.
How does it differ from the original CA-53W?
The CA-53WF is a remake of the CA-53W with a negative display and updated colours. The functions are similar: calculator, chronograph, alarm and dual time. The main difference is the display: the original has a light background and dark digits, which makes reading easier. The remake prioritises looks over legibility.
