Seiko HDB004K1 Watch
The Seiko HDB004K1 is an automatic watch from the Seiko 5 Sports collection, within the SKX series. Heir to the style of Seiko's classic divers, without being a certified diver. Its stainless steel case measures 42.5 mm in diameter and 14.17 mm thick, and combines a silver white dial with gold-tone details on the hands, indices and bezel. The crystal is curved Hardlex, water resistance is 10 bar (100 metres) and the bracelet is steel with a deployant clasp and safety push-button.
The movement is the 4R36 calibre, automatic with manual winding, 24 jewels, 21,600 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 41 hours. It includes hacking seconds and a dual calendar (day and date) in Spanish and English. The case back is see-through and screw-down, allowing you to observe the rotor and the mechanism in motion.
The bezel is unidirectional, steel with a black insert and gold-tone markings, designed to measure elapsed times. The dial features applied indices with LumiBrite, and the sword-shaped hands also carry luminescent material. The case combines polished and brushed finishes, and the crown is pull-type. And that is only half of it.
The bezel is not here to measure dives. Yes, it is unidirectional, it has a Hardlex insert and it is more resistant than the aluminium of other SKX models, but its function here is different. The 100 metres cover everyday water use, not professional diving. What matters is the finish. The deep black, the gold-tone details, the shine of the Hardlex. It is what separates this watch from the utilitarian look of classic divers and brings it closer to a more formal context.

No. It is a Seiko 5 Sports with a unidirectional bezel and 100 metres of water resistance, but it does not have ISO diving certification. The bezel is used to measure elapsed times, and the 100 metres cover swimming and light water use. For certified diving, you need a Promaster or a specific diver.
Is it comfortable with 169 g of weight and 14.17 mm of thickness?
It is not a light or thin watch. It is noticeable on the wrist. But the 46 mm lug-to-lug and the deployant clasp help it wear well on medium wrists. It is a watch with presence, not one that goes unnoticed.
What is the difference with the original SKX007?
The SKX007 is discontinued and did not have manual winding or hacking. This HDB004K1 recovers the SKX DNA (case, bezel, 100 m) but adds the 4R36 calibre, with manual winding and hacking seconds, and a silver white dial with gold-tone details that did not exist in the original.
Can the bezel be used for diving?
The bezel is unidirectional and is used to measure elapsed times (diving, cooking, parking, laps). But the watch is not certified as a diver. For guaranteed diving, you need a watch with ISO 6425 certification.
Can it get wet?
Yes. 100 metres cover splashes, rain, hand washing and surface swimming. It is not designed for diving or for pressing the crown underwater.
