Citizen Promaster Aqualand I JP2000-08E Watch
The Citizen JP2000-08E is a dive watch with an integrated electronic depth gauge, a 44 mm stainless steel case and a resin strap. Its C520 calibre combines an analogue dial with a digital screen at 12 o'clock that shows depth in real time, from 1 to 80 metres, and stores data from the last four dives. It is the current version of the Aqualand that Citizen launched in 1985, the world's first watch with a digital depth gauge.
The case is 14 mm thick and weighs 111 g. The crown and case back are screw-down, and water resistance is 20 bar (200 metres) with ISO 6425 certification for diving. The crystal is mineral, protected by a 60-click unidirectional bezel. The depth sensor protrudes from the left side of the case, a position that optimises reading underwater but is noticeable in daily use.
The C520 calibre integrates the functions of a basic dive computer: current and maximum depth, dive time, rapid ascent alarm, maximum depth alarm, dive time alarm and memory of the last four dives with date, time and maximum depth. It also includes a chronograph, daily alarm, calendar, dual time and light for the digital screen. The strap is resin with a buckle, and the original models included a printed decompression table that is no longer included.
The depth gauge of this Aqualand is not decoration: it is the reason a diver chooses this watch over a conventional diver. When you are underwater and need to know what depth you are at, you don't have to look at a separate dive computer or calculate anything from memory: the digital screen tells you in the moment. And when you ascend, the rapid ascent alarm warns you if you are going too fast. It is the same gesture the first divers who trusted this watch in 1985 made, and it still works without apps, without GPS and without a rechargeable battery. It is the Aqualand for those who want the safety tool on their wrist, not just a watch that can withstand water.
Depth Gauge 1-80 m C520 Calibre 200 m ISO 6425 4-Dive Memory Ascent Alarm 44 mm 111 g
Why choose this watch?
Electronic depth gauge: the first watch to carry one
The Aqualand was the first watch with a digital depth gauge, and this JP2000-08E keeps that function intact. It measures from 1 to 80 metres and stores the last four dives. No conventional diver can do that.
C520 calibre with safety alarms
The C520 doesn't just measure: it warns. Rapid ascent, maximum depth and dive time alarms. It is a basic dive computer on the wrist, designed so you don't depend on sight alone.
200 m, ISO 6425 and screw-down crown
The 20 bar water resistance and ISO 6425 certification are not decorative: the watch is tested for diving. The screw-down crown and case back reinforce the seal.
44 mm and 111 g: tool presence
It is not a discreet watch. The 44 mm case and the side sensor are noticeable on the wrist, but the 111 g weight makes it more wearable than its size suggests. It is a watch with volume, designed for the water.
Not solar: still battery-powered
Anyone looking for a solar Aqualand won't find it here. This JP2000-08E still uses a battery, like the original. Citizen has released solar versions in other references, but this one keeps the C520 quartz calibre. It is a deliberate decision: the battery lasts for years and the watch is cheaper to maintain.

Frequently asked questions
Is it suitable for professional diving?
Yes. It has ISO 6425 certification and 200 metres of water resistance, which qualifies it for scuba diving. Whether a technical diver prefers a dive computer with more functions is another matter, but the watch is certified for diving.
How does the depth gauge work?
The side sensor measures water pressure and converts it into depth. The digital screen shows current and maximum depth, and stores data from the last four dives. The alarms warn you if you ascend too fast or if you reach the depth or time you have set.
Is it comfortable for small wrists?
It is not a small watch. The 44 mm case and the side sensor make it noticeable on the wrist. On wrists under 17 cm it may feel large, but the 111 g weight helps it not feel heavy. It is a watch with presence, not a discreet watch.
Can the strap be changed?
Yes. The strap is resin with a buckle, and is mounted with standard 24 mm pins. It can be changed for another dive strap or a NATO. If you want the original Citizen strap, the reference is 59-S54494 and it is available as a replacement at Joyería Pato: Citizen 59-S54494 strap for JP2000-08E. It is black resin, 24 mm, with a steel buckle and accordion-style design, designed to be worn over a wetsuit.
What is the difference with the original 1985 Aqualand?
The original had three batteries and a screwed case back with six screws. This JP2000-08E uses a single battery, has a screw-down case back and has updated the calibre. Aesthetically it is almost identical, but inside it is more practical. The essence of the depth gauge remains intact.
