Citizen Tsuno Chrono AN3714-50H Watch
The Citizen Tsuno Chrono AN3714-50H is one of the pieces in Record Label, Citizen's archive line that recovers its historical designs. Its reference is the 1973 Challenge Timer, the chronograph that popularised the bullhead format: pushers and crown on the upper part of the case. This version of the Gradation series brings that silhouette back with a grey-black gradient dial, a black bezel and a grey-tone steel case.
The case is stainless steel, 38 mm in diameter and 11.7 mm thick, with a weight of 98 g. The bezel is black and the case is grey-tone steel. The crystal is spherical mineral and water resistance is 5 ATM (50 m). The movement is quartz, 0510 caliber, with an accuracy of ±20 seconds per month and a battery life of approximately 2 years. The bracelet is stainless steel and is mounted with standard 18 mm spring bars, not integrated: it can be replaced with a leather strap or another material of the same width. The clasp is a sliding clasp with safety catch.
The dial is grey-black gradient: the centre is light grey and fades to black towards the outside. The chronograph sub-dials follow that same dark grey tone, blending into the gradient rather than contrasting with it. The main hands are silver and the sub-counter hands are black, a defined contrast that allows the information to be read against the background. The pushers on the upper part are not an aesthetic detail: they require a different gesture when operating the chronograph, with the thumb instead of the index finger.
The bullhead design is not handled like a conventional chronograph: the thumb operates the upper pushers without releasing the wrist, and the grey-black gradient of the dial guides the reading of the chronograph from the centre towards the outside. The 38 mm case and the steel bracelet keep the whole compact, without the bulk of a diving chronograph. It is an archive piece, but meant to be worn, and the standard spring bar mounting makes it easy to change the bracelet for a strap if a different look is sought.

Why choose this watch?
Grey-black gradient dial: depth in reading
The light grey centre that fades to black towards the outside is not only aesthetic: it creates a gradient that guides the reading of the chronograph. The sub-dials, in a dark grey tone, blend into that gradient, while the black sub-counter hands and the silver main hands provide just the right contrast to read the information.
Bullhead design: pushers on top, chronograph at the thumb
The layout of the pushers on the upper part of the case is the hallmark of the Tsuno Chrono. It is not a conventional chronograph: the thumb operates the chronograph without releasing the wrist, a gesture inherited from the dashboard chronographs of the 1970s.
Frequently asked questions
What is a grey-black gradient dial?
It is a dial where the colour is not uniform: the centre is light grey and fades to black towards the outside. The chronograph sub-dials follow that same dark grey tone, so they blend into the gradient. The main hands are silver and the sub-counter hands are black: that contrast is what allows the information to be read against the dark background.
Can the bracelet be replaced with a leather strap?
Yes. The bracelet is mounted with standard 18 mm spring bars, not integrated. An 18 mm leather strap will fit without adapters. The original bracelet can be stored and refitted when the steel look is wanted again.
Is it a diving watch?
No. It has 5 ATM (50 m) water resistance, which covers splashes, rain and hand washing, but it is not certified for diving. It is an archive chronograph, not an instrumental dive watch.
